Emmanuel was invited to the Sylt Foundation as an artist-in-residence from 26 May to 26 June 2009. The Sylt Foundation is located on the island of Sylt in the North Sea, off the coast of Germany. During this residency, the existing memorial installations of ‘The Lost Men Grahamstown’ (2004) and ‘The Lost Men Mozambique’ (2007) were installed on the island, to be seen by visitors to the Meerkabarett Cultural Festival, which takes place annually from 6 July to 23 August 2009.
